The West African island nation of Cabo Verde is now operational with Aireon\u2019s space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data for air traffic surveillance in the oceanic portion of its Sal oceanic flight information region (FIR), bringing unprecedented safety and operational efficiency for the airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ASA, Cabo Verde air navigation service provider, joins its air navigation service provider (ANSP) neighbors Nav Portugal in Europe, ASECNA in Africa, and Cayenne in South America as Aireon customers in the region. The 1.3 million square kilometer Sal Oceanic FIR is a key airspace for regional traffic, specifically for flights from Europe to South America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aireon ADS-B data has the potential to unlock a number of safety and operational benefits for Cabo Verde, particularly due to the country\u2019s predominantly international and oceanic flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By bringing space-based ADS-B into operation with Aireon, Cabo Verde positions itself as a strategic player in the transatlantic corridor between Europe and South America. In addition to improved safety and operational predictability, this initiative also contributes to emissions reduction, aligning Cabo Verde with ICAO and African Union goals for sustainable air transport development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
